New Email Spear Phishing Attempt Posing as FTC

The Spear Phishing attempts just keep coming. Spear phishing emails may contain personal data such as your name, phone or some other targeted piece of information that makes the fake email more relevant to you and causes you to think the fake email is more likely to be real. If you are a small business owner like we are this one is especially ominus and a not so careful owner could easily click on the link wanted to see which customer complained to the FTC about them (full email image is below).

On closer examination of the email header information and the raw source code you would quickly see that the email (medicon@cytanet.com.cy) appears to have been sent from a company called Cytanet.com in Cyprus. That could have easily been spoofed as well. Point is that it is not coming from the United States Federal Trade Commission.

 

Below is the raw source of the email body. Note the spammers link highlighted in yellow that delivers the payload to the unsuspecting email recipient.
